Top 10 Most Expensive Players in IPL 2024 Auction

The 2024 edition of the IPL player’s auction took place on December 19 in Dubai which witnessed the team spend their money on a few high-profile cricketers. The international players and some domestic talents had a good payday at the auction.

Here are the 10 Most Expensive Players of the IPL 2024 Auction

1. Mitchell Starc

The Australian star Mitchell Starc is the most expensive player in the IPL auction history with a bid of Rs 24.75 crore. Starc was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), banking on his stellar performance in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. He has taken 34 wickets from 27 games in his brief career in the franchise T20 league.

 

2. Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins an Australian captain, of a World Cup-winning team made a record and became the costliest player in IPL history when the Sunrisers picked him up with a bid of Rs 20.50 crore. Cummins is the second most expensive player in IPL. Pet leadership and prowess promise a dynamic addition to the SRH team.

 

3. Daryl Mitchell

New Zealand player Daryl Mitchell caught everyone’s attention in the World Cup, combining 552 runs at an average of 69 and scoring centuries in both the faceoffs against India. His sensational batting made CSK bid him for Rs 14 crore. Mitchell’s consistent performances make him a valuable asset in CSK’s batting lineup.

 

4. Harshal Patel

After getting released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Harshal was taken by Punjab Kings (PBKS) at a bid of Rs 11.75 crore. Patel was the purple cap holder in the IPL 2021. Now in the 2024 IPL, he will perform for PBKS and make new records.

 

5. Alzarri Joseph

A West Indies player Alzarri Joseph was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the bid of Rs 11.5 crore. Joseph is well known for his ability to take wickets.  Now RCB’s bowling strength will increase in the upcoming season. Alzarri previously represented the Gujarat Titans (GT), where he took 20 wickets in 19 games in the league.

 

6. Spencer Johnson

Gujarat Titans (GT) paid Rs 10 crore to get Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson. He has taken 17 wickets at an economy of 7.84  in only 20 games. The bowler could be a good option to use early on in the innings and can be equally handy with the older ball, using his variations to good effect.

 

7. Sameer Rizvi

Sameer Rizvi an Indian cricketer was roped in by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with a bid of Rs 8.5 crore. He played for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. Sameer is poised to make his IPL debut in the upcoming season. Rizvi is a 20-year-old power hitter.

 

8. Rilee Rossouw

Rilee Roscoe Rossouw is a South African cricketer. He was unsold the first time and later was picked by Punjab Kings with a bid of Rs 8 crore. His presence will strengthen the batting unit of the team. In 24 T20Is, Rilee has smashed 624 runs at an average of 36.78 and a strike rate of 156.02.

 

9. Shahrukh Khan

The Tamil Nadu batter Shahrukh Khan was released by his previous team but he found new takers in the Gujarat Titans. Khan was paid Rs 7.4 crore. The Titans have brought the best out of many untapped potentials in the last couple of years. Now Titans have shown confidence in Shahrukh’s potential to deliver match-winning performances.

 

10. Rovman Powell

West Indian batter Rovman Powell was taken by Rajasthan Royals (RR) with a bid of Rs 7.4 crore. Powell’s weaknesses against spin bowling have glaringly come through in recent seasons and he is a fine hitter against pacers. It will be good for RR if they put Rovman to use in specific phases of the innings.
