India and Mumbai Indians star batter Suryakumar Yadav will miss the first few matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. As Yadav failed to pass a fitness test, he did not get clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
Since last December Yadav has been out of action because of his ankle injury he got in South Africa. Suryakumar underwent surgery in Germany in January for the same sports hernia reason.
National Cricket Academy (NCA) said: “He failed to pass the fitness test on Tuesday. We will have another fitness test for him on Thursday and if he passes, then only he can feature in the IPL”. While Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher said: “We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two in terms of fitness but we have to move on as is sport.”
Suryakumar shared a post on his official Instagram handle and gave an address to the confusion surrounding his surgery. He wrote, “Hello everyone, good morning. Hope you all are doing well. Just wanted to clear something up. Bit of a confusion, I guess. For those who aren’t aware, I was operated on for SPORTS HERNIA a few weeks back not for my ankle. The road to recovery is going well. Thank you, everyone, for all the love and support, see you all soon.” Yadav also mentioned that he is happy to tell everyone that he will be back very soon.
On March 24 Mumbai Indians will begin its campaign against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
